Sharon Carter, Ph.D., Transitions Program

Sharon is a seasoned and versatile Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years of excellence in mental health and healthcare organizations as a director and administrator. She also owns and operates her own business as a psychologist and business/executive coach, having been voted “McAllen’s Favorite Psychologist” by the readership of The Monitor in McAllen, Texas.

Sharon’s interest in leadership development was ignited when she was selected to participate in Leadership Texas, the premier statewide women’s leadership program. Observing that comprehensive, ongoing leadership development programs were lacking in healthcare organizations, and believing that increasing leadership effectiveness was critical to success in today’s healthcare environment, Sharon committed to acquiring additional competencies to help leaders meet today’s business challenges. Sharon completed 120 hours of training with the College of Executive Coaching and served as an internal executive coach to executives, directors and physicians at a 650 bed, regional integrated health system. She also continues to provide these services through her private practice to business leaders, community organization leaders and professionals.

Through her experience in working with leaders from a variety of industries, Sharon became convinced of the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and leadership effectiveness. Her current coaching focus is the development of increased Emotional Intelligence (EI), stress resiliency, emotional regulation skills and improved work/life balance.

Sharon has a Ph.D. and M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Arizona State University and holds licensure in the states of Texas and Colorado. She is also a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt, Certified Employee Assistance Professional and Certified Provider of HeartMath Interventions Programs. Sharon is qualified by MHS (Multi-Health Systems) to administer and interpret the EQ-i 2.0, the EQ-360 assessments—the most scientifically researched and validated instruments of Emotional Intelligence and are specifically designed for the work setting.

Recently relocating from south Texas to Colorado, Sharon spends her spare time exploring her new surroundings and hiking in the mountains with her partner, Bill, and their two dogs. Domestic and international travels are also high on her personal agenda.
